There thousands of organisims ina coral reef. However, they are divided into three groups. In the open ocean, coral reefs or marine headlands, there will be a predator, there will be prey and in some case both. This is known as a predtor prey relationship.
Predator
Now we think a predator as a creature or organisim with many teeth and an life made for killing. This is not the case. When a predtor is going in for the kill, it is not for sport, but for survival. Every creature on Earth needs to survive, and to do this, a predator needs prey. You also may think now that a predator will kill for survival and theirfor kill anything it sees for food. This is also wrong. A great white shark as an example, will only have two out of te successful kills each day on average. That is a 20% kill average each day. With odds like these, a predator needs to think about what their next kill will be, will it be successful, will the victim cause damage and will it leave hungry. These are the things a predtor thinks about when it is going for the kill. When it does though, it will have one chance, and that chance is nealy always the first bite of its victim. The predtor then needs to make sure that the first bite is a leathal one to make it a certain meal.
Prey
Every organisim is considered as prey, if it's smaller than another organisim, it is potentially a target. When a predator is hunting prey, the prey becomes a victom. Most organisims that are considered to be prey will swim away to a small coral reef cave or in coral at times. Other organisims that are considered as prey will try to fight the predator for survivability. the same with predators, prey will do anything to survive. Fish and eels can scare predators off with different adaptations like colour, beaks, teeth or size.
Predator prey relationship
A predator prey relationship is when both a predator and prey join in a relationship, like a deal or a bargin. In the best example, a shark will swim by and collect remoras, these are a type of fish that eat any dead skin on a larger organisim, this a win for both the remora and the shark as the remora gets a free meal, and the shark gets a clean and gives the remora a free lift.
